Pace Museum

Design:  2008

Construction:  2009

Location:  Beijing, China

Pace Museum locates in the 798 area, the material of existing building is reinforced concrete red brick, a line of concrete semi arch skylight facing north provides sufficient natural light for the interior space.

The starting point of design is to keep the existing structure of the building to the maximum limit, to take full advantage of the feature of industrial building: concise and rough, to demolish the partition walls in order to create a flexible interior space.

The luminousness of skylight is adjusted delicately and prudently, so that the light is reflected and refracted by the concrete semi arch, providing proper and gentle natural light for the works, also highlighting the comparison of different materials (bricks, glasses, white walls) and spaces.
