2023.04.29

On the evening of April 28th, Zhu Pei delivered a lecture titled "Experimental: Recent Work by Studio Zhu Pei" at AIA New York | Center for Architecture. The lecture was followed by the first release of the new book Jingdezhen Imperial Kiln Museum.

In the lecture, Zhu Pei focused on the design philosophy of "Architecture of Nature” and illustrated the roots and contemporaneity of architectural creation by introducing the design process and construction experience of recent experimental work, including the Jingdezhen Imperial Kiln Museum, the Majiayao Ruins Museum and Observatory, the OCT Art Center, and the Zijing International Conference Camp. He specifically explained how to explore the natural construction principles behind architecture, and how to find a consanguinity between architecture, regional culture and climate, thereby demonstrating the unique characteristics of architectural design formed in the eastern environment. After the lecture, Zhu Pei had an in-depth conversation with Martino Stierli, Philip Johnson Chief Curator of Architecture and Design at MoMA on the significance of the architectural and tectonic experiments presented. After the conversation, the new book Jingdezhen Imperial Kiln Museum was on sale at the event site.
