2021 Graduation Exhibition of CAFA, School of Architecture -- Natural Construction

From May 25th to June 4th, 2021, the undergraduate graduation exhibition of the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) , School of Architecture will be exhibited at CAFA Art Museum. The theme of the exhibition is "Natural Construction". 88 undergraduates from the School of Architecture used physical models, drawing boards, videos and other methods to display their design work.
On May 25, 2021, Zhu Pei, the Dean and Professor of the School of Architecture of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, gave a speech on the theme of "Natural Construction" at the opening ceremony. He said, “Natural construction” is the response of our school to the two common challenges faced by mankind: global climate change and regional cultural rupture. It is to construct a new perspective of contemporary Chinese architectural education based on Chinese natural philosophy. It is also that in the current situation where contemporary architecture is trying to use technological ecology to meet the above challenges, CAFA, School of Architecture is seeking to build the future of Chinese contemporary architecture with the concept of Natural Intelligent Ecology.

He emphasized that "root and creation are the core concepts of "natural construction", a dual path from experimental concepts to practical creation." and explained it from two aspects. The first is that digging the root causes can make the building rooted in a specific climate and cultural soil and become the most appropriate materialization of the local people's way of living, forming a smart, ecological, and healthy natural building system. The second is that the experimental and creative attitude allows architecture to shape an open system, accommodate many new possibilities, and create new experiences. He mentioned that “Innovation and creation are the basic attributes of art. Relying on the art education platform of CAFA, School of Architecture based on the perspective of art and humanity, explores the most moving parts from the vivid social and cultural dynamics, and shapes new life experiences. This is also an effective way to inject vitality into the =increasingly large cities under rapid urbanization.
