Studio Zhu Pei's installation Yi Garden was unveiled at Beijing Daxing International Airport

2019.10.01

On September 25th, 2019, the opening ceremony of Beijing Daxing International Airport was officially launched. Meanwhile, the installation Yi Garden designed by Studio Zhu Pei was unveiled here. Located in the southeast courtyard on the second floor of the airport, Yi Garden is made of acrylic tubes, built-in LED light and gravel. Inspired by the landscape of “Heave rivers in waves, Bow thousands bamboos” in the poem ‘Wind’ by Li Qiao, a poet of Tang Dynasty, the installation not only captures the essence of “the hills, the forest, the fog, the cloud”, but also reflects the human spirit of experiencing these natural settings, playing with a sense of “hiding, breathing, cultivating, and wandering”, ultimately representing the artistic spirit of traditional Chinese architecture and gardens. At night, the “bamboo forest” gradually turns dimmer and gentler, breathing the pulse of the nature. The work is not about constructing a landscape, but to capture the “mindscape”.
